WHETHER it's in the football field or the kitchen, Lukas Podolski makes the cut.

And the former Arsenal star's latest venture into hospitality has seen keen crowds queue outside his kebab shop for five hours just to get their hands on his doner.

The German World Cup winner launched Mangal Doner in Cologne over the weekend - with the store's opening met with hungry crowds.

Lucky kebab-lovers even managed to get an autograph from the footballer, who opened the store after falling in love with the late night snack while in Turkey.

Posing with his thumbs up after the opening, the former Arsenal star thanked fans, saying: "A night to remember in Cologne, the beginning of a new fun chapter.

"The best döner out there. Thank you all for coming and I hope you enjoyed it !"

He had put on a show for those who crowded to get a taste of the kebab, posing with a knife and slicing off some meat to complete the snack.

The footballer isn't a stranger to food stores - already owning an ice cream parlour in Cologne.

It comes after fears that doner kebabs could be banned, with health regulators looking to outlaw the phosphates currently used in the meat which give kebabs their unique taste.

A 71-year-old Turkish singer has recently revealed she looks half her age thanks to her diet of kebabs.

Ajda Pekkan, who shot to fame in Turkey in the 1970s, revealed the secrets behind her glamorous looks in an interview with local media.
