A MUM and daughter have disappeared after setting out on a camping trip in California.

Audrey Rodrigue, 29, and her daughter Emily, 10, flew from Canada to San Francisco International Airport on Saturday.

Here they rented a dark grey Ford Focus and drove to nearby Vagabond Hotel where they spent the night.

The next day at noon Audrey texted her boyfriend just before she set out for their next hotel at Pigeon Point which was just 40 miles away.

But they never arrived and the mum and daughter could not be contacted on their phones and were reported missing on Monday.

Audrey and Emily had a reservation for the Fish Lake Campground, near Orleans, in Humboldt County, for Tuesday.

When park rangers checked the camp area and showed photographs of the mum and daughter to campers and staff, some said they thought they saw them there but the pair had now left.

The neighbours and camp staff said Audrey and Emily did not appear to be in distress, sheriff's officials said.
